Hiring an AI automation consultant in Charlotte: what to ask before you sign
Charlotte has more AI automation consultants than most cities, and more of them are resellers. Four questions that tell a real builder from a middleman before you pay.
Charlotte has no shortage of people calling themselves AI automation consultants. A bigger market pulls in more talent, which is good, and more middlemen, which is not, and from the outside the two look identical. Same friendly website, same words, same confident demo. So before you hire anyone here, it helps to have a few questions that separate the builders from the people reselling someone else’s software with a markup.
Ask what they make if you buy nothing. Many “consultants” earn a slice of whatever platform they sign you up for, often twenty percent of your subscription, for years.1 That is legal and common. It also means the person advising you on what you need gets paid more the more you buy, which is a hard thing to trust. If they charge for their time no matter which tool you land on, the opinion is more likely to be theirs.
The advice that helps you most is the advice that pays them least. The person willing to give it is usually the one telling you the truth.
Ask them to show you one thing they built. Not a slide, not a wall of vendor logos they partner with. A real workflow, running, that took a real task off someone’s plate. A builder has these. A reseller has brochures.
Ask what it costs to run and what happens when it breaks. Every pitch skips these two, and they are where the pain shows up six months later. A real answer has a monthly number and a failure plan in writing before you sign.
Ask whether they will ever tell you a job is not worth automating. Some of the tasks eating your week are cheaper to leave alone. Someone who says that out loud is thinking about your operation instead of their invoice.
None of this requires being in Charlotte, and plenty of the work is remote anyway, but the questions matter more in a big market precisely because there are more people betting you will not ask them. We work with Charlotte and Piedmont businesses the same way we work with everyone: we resell nothing and take no referral fees, which is the plainest way we know to keep our opinion actually ours.
What is the task you were about to pay someone to automate, and have you asked them yet what they earn if you walk away? That is where Aitako would start, and sometimes the answer is that an afternoon’s fix beats a monthly bill.
